Top Companies in 2009

Summary

Starbucks has been one of the most progressive brands in the world at using Twitter to connect with and expand their customer base. This effort has clearly paid off with the company consistently pulling in a large percent of the influencer conversation share. AT&T made the list through other means--by consistently aggravating the iPhone wielding influencers with their poor service. Verizon Wireless rode rumors of the iPhone making an appearance on their network and the launch of the Droid to get influencers talking, while Ford and General Motors have experienced both the positive and negative effects of being the center of attention.

Like Starbucks, Ford is one of the most progressive companies leveraging social media, even so, they couldn't escape the heated conversations surrounding the challenges facing the American auto industry and subsequent government bailouts. While Walmart and McDonald’s enjoyed big spikes in conversations by influencers, Disney was extremely consistent throughout the year.
